No Shrinking Violet

Maybe it's from lack of sleep, or maybe I'm just easily amused, but the headline of this article had me spewing my coffee all over the keyboard this morning. I never even really read much past the headline, because suddenly I was transported back [translation: "easily distracted"] to the days of my kids as toddlers, splashing around in our wading pool. I remember watching with amazement as my kid's Pampers absorbed water, slowly expanding until the diaper was roughly the size of Rhode Island. (You moms who were moms before "Swimmies" know what I'm talking about.) ~cn

Diaper plant will expand, save jobs

By Associated Press - Athens Banner-Herald Published Sunday
MACON - First Quality Baby Products plans a $200 million expansion at its plant in Macon that will save more than 200 jobs and add 150 workers. Local officials worked for nearly a year to persuade the diaper manufacturer to expand in Macon. President and chief executive officer Chip Cherry said he was kept up at night thinking of the 222 families who would have been affected if the plant had relocated.

According to a statement released Friday, the company chose Macon over multiple sites in several states that were also competing for the project. Construction on a new $35 million building is scheduled to begin by the end of the year and could be open by next spring.

First Quality, based in Great Neck, N.Y., bought the Macon facility in April 2008.

Glass Half Full

I just found out my kid, who's away at college, has been buying new underwear so she won't have to do laundry. Good news, bad news kinda thing? Not sure. (Anyway, I'd worry about her, but at least I know she's wearing underwear, and that they're clean!)
